Over eight decades ago Joseph Pilates launched a conditioning revolution that held the promise of unparalleled strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and posture control. Pilates is a unique, full-body conditioning system focusing on stretching and strengthening abdominal and back muscles.
The main principles of Pilates are: breath, control, precision, flow of movement, centering and stability. By using these principles, the objective is to restore the body to a place of balance by gaining healthy postural alignment, strengthening the core, relieving overworked muscles and gaining spinal mobility.
The Pilates workout system is comprised of over 500 exercises, performed as a mat based workout or using special resistance equipment. Here at the Capital Athletic Club we offer both while understanding different body types and personal preference need diverse forms of training.

GROUP PILATES CLASSES OFFERED: As members of The Capital Athletic Club, you have access to one of the finest Pilates programs in Northern California. In order to provide our members with exceptional service and an unsurpassed program we allow 2 FREE Pilates Reformer classes a week. This allotment allows members to participate in over 100 free classes each year.
MAT PILATES: Strength and core training with a special emphasis on posture and body alignment.
MAT PILATES WITH PROPS/ON THE BALL: Add a new twist to your favorite Mat Pilates class! Incorporating the use of props during mat Pilates can really enhance your total body workout.
PILATES STUDIO CLASSES: Classes completed in the Pilates Studio are done on a specifically designed apparatus named the “reformer” and require signing up. Please see the information below. (Must complete Quick Start Program before advancing to level 1)
QUICK START PROGRAM: Introduction to basic Pilates techniques with our Quick Start Program. This fee based program teaches the importance of body awareness, breath, control and the significance of the reformer. 3 private sessions preparing a member for participation in the level 1 classes.
LEVEL I: Progressing from beginners through the intermediate level. Level 1 is more of an emphasis on core stability and strength.
LEVEL II: Considered an advanced class. Participants are required to know exercises by name, know spring settings, keep up with the class and be able to execute the exercises well.
Free Classes: As a Club member, we offer two (2) FREE classes each week. This allows for equal access for all participants to the available class spaces. You are welcome to book additional classes each week, but each additional class will require payment of a $10 class fee.
